In this post, we’ll discuss what you can expect from dental implant surgery.
Before the Procedure
First things first, your dentist must ensure you’re suitable for treatment. They will assess your dental health, ask what medications you’re on, and look at other factors to determine if you’re a good candidate. Your provider will also talk about what you can expect from sedation and the whole process in general.
During the Surgery
Once the treatment begins, you’ll first receive local anesthesia to numb the area. After you can’t feel anything, your provider will make an incision in your gums until the bone is exposed. This is where the implant will be placed. Specialized tools are then used to prepare your jawbone. Next, the implant is placed, the gums are repositioned, and the incision is closed with stitches.
After the Treatment
There’s a long waiting period once the implant is placed. It usually takes at least a few months until enough bone grows around the dental implant. Your dentist will provide a temporary restoration while you wait.
After you return to your dentist for the final phase and receive the implant, you’ll need to follow the postoperative instructions from your dentist or oral surgeon. And the process is complete!
